Many believed that because of his complex nature that Mengele did not have any family that accepted him, and he could never be a person to have a family of his own. But Mengele was born the eldest of three sons, his parents were Karl and Walburga Mengele. He hid in South America after the war were he divorced Irene Mengele. He was accepted by his family who helped shield him for years along with his diaries and letters. In 1958, Mengele married his brother Karl's widow, Martha, and later she and her son moved to Argentina to join Mengele. Mengele's life had now established itself into the comfortable and secure routine of a family man. Even thought at times Dr. Josef Mengele seemed not to have the smallest amount of humanity in his heart, he eventually had a family of his own and a normal life.
